The Best of 2007: Best Blog Writer

Sometimes, after much searching, the best things are found in your own back yard. Who can provide a sterling example of grammar, punctuation, concision, clarity, and all the other traits of writing that set the talented apart from the rest? Who can write about a subject I would not normally read and keep me reading about it? While I answer who that is, let me also explain why I can't say where this writer is.

The Wife has not one, but two blog sites, and we have an agreement not to link to each other, so I can show neither of them here. I can only say that The Wife's writing talent, which I have tested and taxed over many weeks, holds it's own against any site which I have found or she has shown me.

One of her sites is a fan blog about a television actor. She's synthesized various source materials into an absorbing blog that will keep many coming back to find out what's next. Isn't that what a blog should do? Having read what she had to work with, I know the disparity between the sources and what she accomplished with them.

As to her regular blog, I'm impressed by her writing on controversial subject matter, and how she responds to those who comment on it. (Now that I consider some of those who comment, I appreciate our agreement and renew our vow.) One of her posts, mentioning a well publicized murder, received a response from a family member while leaving no margin for error on The Wife's choice of words. But she maneuvered through the field, and the family member, who will never get over that murder, wasn't offended.

Another post, less controversial, still managed to find the sensitive spot of one reader: The Wife's mother. This became another example of The Wife's talent, when her words, demonstrating strength, elegance, and greater maturity, transcended that strange and strained mother daughter relationship, and bound the matriarchal tempest.

While I've read other sites, fiction, fandom, and journals, and, in a few cases, strongly identify with a few, none can surpass the clarity and strength of The Wife's writing. Keep in mind that I'm comparing her to other bloggers who have just as much education, some of whom make a living with their words. I would love to best The Wife, but to do that would seem to require some mystical process that would transform me into a well written, tough mother.
