Road Trip
My boss at work called yesterday to let me know about a change of plans. I'm going to Pendleton today. Hey, it's time away from the plant, and that suits me fine. I get to have peace and quiet, get some reading done, and do some studying. I'm always studying something. So what books shall I bring?
For study:
- Elemnts of Style, by Shrunk and White
- Style Toward Clarity and Grace, by Joseph Williams
- Writing Fiction 3rd edition, by Janet Burroway
- The Grammar Bible, by Michael Strumph and Auriel Douglas
- A pocket Thesaurus
- The Ballad of the Sad Cafe and other stories, Carson McCullers
- The Complete Stories of Truman Capote
- Men Without Women, Ernest Hemingway (got to have my Hemingway)
- The Wheel of Love, Joyce Carol Oats
- Foxfire, by Joyce Carol Oats. I'm looking forward to this one. A late fifties girl gang raising hell. You bet that got my attention.
- The Wayfarer Redemption, by Sara Douglas. Yeah, I still haven't finished it. Poking it with a stick. I'll get it done.
I picked up a copy of Norman Mailer's The Executioner's Song. I had to pay twenty bucks for it, but this is the book that got him his second Pulitzer. The writing is excellent, and I purchased it for study. Incidently, there were people outside of Powell's giving out FREE HUGS! Naturally, I got one. See, being literate is good!
