Mountains

I rode up to Timberline Lodge from Government Camp. For those of you not familiar with Mt Hood, that's a little over six miles up some very steep roads. I would say far greater than a six percent grade.

Riding up a mountain side teaches one things, if one is ready to learn. Here are my two lessons...

Cervelo-1 is not geared for mountain climbing.

A little more than half way I ran out of energy. Mental and physical. I rode over to a small clearing next to the road. I got a little energy back, and my legs settled down a bit. I knew the lodge wasn't too far away, but would the road remain this steep or would the grade ease up a bit? I was going to turn around when I looked at the mountain peak and said "I'll try."

Failure was the worst that could happen, why not go ahead? I knew one way or another I would win, so I never felt frustrated. I never felt defeat. I got to Timberline Lodge after a lot of effort and two more rests.

Wifey-Do was at the top waiting for my arrival. She could see that I was tired, and I affirmed that I was, but the last part was all mental.
